Each volume comprising the Frid Framework works in concert with all the other volumes. No single book of the Frid Framework is inseparable from the others. Even as they get dated, the same theory and principles are still underpinning the entire series. For instance, in the first book written in the series, “Infrastructure for Knowledge Management”, we talk about various technologies that contribute to KM. Looking back now we can see that this was misleading, but we’re not apologizing since the academic community was only just starting to hear about the concept of Knowledge Management and we were way ahead of the curve. Implementing several of these tools taught us a lot about what works and what doesn’t, and most importantly “Why”. We were breaking new ground daily, and you don’t always make the right decisions when you live on the bleeding edge, but that is the price for innovation at times. Meanwhile, the earliest book still contains very sound KM theory that has withstood the test of time. We continue to build on that theory today.
Over the years our research and projects have driven us closer and closer to validating our original postulation; that KM is really about the care and feeding of the human decision-cycle. We conciously leave training and education to academia where it belongs. Mentorship is valuable, but is one-on-one, expensive, and not scalable. We leave mentorship up to the individuals involved.
So where does that leave us. What can feed the human decision-cycle while also being measureable, repeatable and sustainable (the three primary qualities of management). The answer (as of the time of this writing) is Architecture. Architecture is the bridge between ideas and implementation, between vision and operations, and between behavioral change and behavioral control. Architecture provides us a graphical language that abstracts us from the subtleties and nuances (and thus misinterpretations) of natural language and the written word. Therefore Architecture can even help us bridge cultural barriers. It’s not perfect (yet), but it is one of the most powerful implementations of Knowledge Management that any organization can undertake.

The mechanics and implementation of governance.
An absolute must for anyone asked to setup any type of Governance Body inside their organization.
Comes with governance process, templates, and everything else you need to get your Governance Bodies established and operational within days instead of months.
Specifically for Enterprise Architecture, there is a special section on how to set up an EA-Lite Program and utilize our JUST-IN-TIME EA methodology. This program cuts conventional EA program costs from 50-80%. The Frid Framework EA Governance Process has now been adopted by: DND/CF, CFIA, EC, PWGSC, & SSC.

The Outcomes Management Framework is all about defining and articulating your organizational strategy. It shows you how to determine the true nature of a problem, then works you through a graphical means of describing your vision, mission, outcomes, objectives, capabilities, and initiatives.
One of the most difficult tasks any organization encounters is defining it's strategy and communicating that strategy to various stakeholders. The Outcomes Management Framework provides an excellent methodology for doing just that.
Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat has adopted many elements of the Outcomes Management Framework as core to program and project development methodologies, and has integrated it into their Enhanced Management Framework.

Knowledge is only in the human mind. If you move it outside of the human mind, it is Information.
This simple yet extremely critical point is what breaks when most organizations try to implement Knowledge Management initiatives. KM is not about blogs or wikis - that is the job of Information Management.
Ask yourself a question: How do you "manage" what goes on inside someone's head? Knowledge Management is about "Management" not just Knowledge. If you intend on trying to manage Knowledge then you need to be managing and maturing people's cognitive models and mental processes.
This is done through a broad range of training, simulation, experience, mentoring, and providing people with a framework they can leverage when trying to solve problems, or when they are trying to break through innovation barriers.

The Frid Factor focuses on defining the Human Decision Cycle. It attempts to make practical that which has been typically relegated to the field of psychology.

Infrastructure for Knowledge Management was the first attempt to begin documenting a decade of research into human decision-making. It attempts to drive out the foundational principles of KM and discusses KM in terms of an emerging field of research. The writing itself is poor as I'm sure you would find most writers hate looking back on their earlier works. However, it was well received and it still provides the foundation on which all our work today continues to build. Where many theories of KM have come and gone like many hypothesis do, this book still withstands the test of time, so we must have done something right, way back when.

Demons at the Door has nothing to do with the Frid Framework. Colt Frid had an idea in his early teens to write an action story for young adults. He did, and this is the result.
It's actually a really good book for any family. Give it a try, you'll like it. It's not just for teens, as many an adult has praised Colt's first work of hard core Science Fiction.

The Frid Framework is a living collection of volumes that will continue to be refined and updated over the years as we capture lessons learned and refine the methods within the framework itself.
The Frid Framework is not an all-inclusive end-to-end prescriptive solution because many other international standards bodies are leveraged. The Frid Framework is designed from the start to introduce innovative concepts to fill in the gaps were others just haven't gone before, and to diverge from conventional thinking to find breakthrough innovations.
Some dimensions of the Frid Framework are currently under review by various standards bodies for inclusion into specific international standards as extensions to current standards. Changes to the Frid Framework may evolve out of these discussions, as these bodies typically require consensus and concessions. These refinements will be included in further editions.
